Environmental Public Health Practitioner

About Us:

The mission of the Division of Environmental Health is to serve and protect the People of Guam from environmental hazards and drug diversion through education and implementation of governing laws designed to prevent injuries, diseases, disabilities, and deaths.

Who We're Looking For:

We are looking for students who are enrolled in any undergraduate STEM courses or programs, who are seeking opportunities to take their knowledge and apply it in an Environmental Health setting.

We are seeking Interns Who Have:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Programs
  • Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Willing and able to adapt to new situations

What this Role looks like:

Intern(s) will accompany the staff of the Division of Environmental Health (DEH) to observe and learn the various activities of DEH to gain a general understanding of the field of environmental health and the environmental health services the Division provides to the people of Guam.

In addition, the intern(s) will be given various tasks to assist DEH functions under the general supervision and/or leadership of one or more Division staff.

Students will be introduced to the field of Environmental Health and the many programs and activities of the DEH. The intern will learn the physical, chemical, biological, and radiologic hazards associated with natural and built environments, which can adversely impact community health, and learn how these threats are managed in the prevention of injuries, diseases, disabilities, and deaths. Areas of study include sanitation, food safety, mosquito control, healthy building, consumer commodities, and regulatory control.

Duration and Time Commitments:

  • 45 Contact Hours (2.5-3 hours per week)

  • Real-life, hands-on experiences through participation in field and office work of DEH.
  • Course credit can be gained upon completion of the internship responsibilities.
  • The knowledge and experience obtained from the internship may assist the intern in future employment with the Division of Environmental Health, or other providers of environmental health services, upon graduation.
