Multimedia Journalist Intern

As an intern, you will be provided with the ultimate hands-on experience to gain practical knowledge of our operation and industry. Multimedia journalist intern duties and responsibilities include:

  • Writing/Composition of news stories for web and broadcast as necessary. May be summaries based on press releases or original story ideas. Copy editing and adapting stories for web and social media from reporters and sports director’s copywriting for broadcast.
  • Creation of News Social Media Graphics utilizing KUAM News templates as directed by supervisor using company brand guidelines and news templates on file in CANVA to create graphic posts.
  • Write accompanying caption copy for posts on social media.
  • Accompanying reporters or news personnel to shoot for original digital gathering (this will be directed by supervisor and only when warranted.)
  • Production Assistance for KUAM Studios projects including but not limited to gripping out in the field, assisting with photography and videography and/or editing, running teleprompter and prepping studio guests.
  • Creation of promotional (advertorial) social graphics/copy and posts for instagram and instagram story in collaboration with advertisers and sales/marketing department.
  • Miscellaneous administrative duties and assistance as needed.

Intern(s) will be given access to KUAM’s Canva, Soundstripe, and After Effects accounts for the duration of their internship.

Intern(s) will also have the opportunity to participate in reporting for our news programs should they seek to gain this experience and pending approval of news director and producers.

This can be counted for course credit hours for senior level internship classes with professor's approval. 

We are Looking For: 

  • 3 Interns
  • Students interested in the field of Journalism, Communications, Media, Marketing, or Public Relations

Time Commitments: 

  • Total Days and cumulative hours are flexible to your schedule but we ask that you complete 24-40 hours /week for the ideal internship experience.
  • Operational hours for our news team are 9:30am -6:30pm M-F (again, we are flexible to your schedule).
  • There may be opportunities or events that transpire outside of these hours and interns are invited to assist on these special events/productions as well.
